Brambles Bed and Breakfast - Directions
Hotel | Bed and Breakfast | Accommodation | Tiverton | Devon
Although a small village (hamlet) in a countryside (rural) location, Brambles should not be difficult to find using your preferred method of navigation (Sat Nav, Smart Phone App, Road Atlas or Map), combined with our directions. Informed by local knowledge and guest feedback, we highlight the following points to assist you for the last couple of miles of your journey.
- Sat Nav or Smart Phone App
- We regularly check the pins are correctly located on Apple Maps, Bing Maps, Citymapper, Google Maps, TomTom and Waze.
- It is important to input 'Brambles Bed and Breakfast' (Tiverton), or alternatively 'Whitnage Cottage' into your navigation system.
- Do not rely solely on the postcode to locate us. Although there are only 14 properties in the EX16 7DS post code, they are more spread out over a larger area than typical in a town or city.
- We regularly check the pins are correctly located on Apple Maps, Bing Maps, Citymapper, Google Maps, TomTom and Waze.
- Location
- Whitnage is located in a small village in the countryside, and the last 1/2 a mile of your journey is along single track, high banked and unlit country roads.

- Recommended Route
- There are three routes into Whitnage. We recommend route one (as set out below). Although slightly further than route two (the shorter navigation system route), the road is wider, has better visibility of oncoming vehicles, more passing places and takes you past the local SPAR, and the two nearest places to eat (the Globe Inn at Sampford Peverell and the Redwoods Inn at Uplowman).

- Written Directions

Route One (Recommended)
Distance - 3 1/2 miles from the M5 at Junction 27 via Sampford Peverell and Uplowman (slightly further than the route typically suggested by SAT NAV systems but avoids a half mile section of very narrow lane with few passing places).
- Exit the M5 (or the A38) at Junction 27 onto the A361 dual carriageway (signposted Tiverton and Barnstaple).
- Keep to the left hand lane for only 1/3 of a mile, then leave the A361 at the first exit (signposted Holbrook Lane, Sampford Peverell, Halberton and Parkway Station). Do not continue on into Tiverton.
- Turn left at the mini roundabout located at the top of the slip road (also signposted Sampford Peverell, Halberton, Parkway Station and Tiverton).
- Continue into and through Sampford Peverell (look out for the Spar shop on the right, the Village Hall on the left, Alex and Co Hair Boutique on the right and the Globe Inn on the right, located around the half way point. You will start to head uphill and almost immediately cross over a canal bridge. You can turn right at this point, however we recommend continuing on for a further 1/2 a mile looking out for the signs to Uplowman).
- Turn right as you leave Sampford Peverell (signposted Uplowman and Huntsham, just before the national speed limit signs).
- Turn left at the next junction and continue on for 1 mile to Uplowman (again signposted Uplowman and Huntsham, crossing over the A361 dual carriageway about the midway point. Look out for the football pitch and village hall on the right and the Redwoods Inn immediately opposite the next junction).
- Turn right and continue on for 1/4 of a mile out of the village (signposted Westleigh and Holcombe Rogus, through the school safety zone, past Saxon House, Kent Cottage and Jaspers Green on the right, the Haven on the left, the Bungalow on the right and Green Gate Cottage and the dead end junction on your left).
- Continue on for the final 1/2 a mile to Whitnage (it is the next village after you leave Uplowman but is NOT signposted).
- Whitnage Cottage is on the right as you come into Whitnage (just past Locks Farm House on the left, Locks Cottage and Little Whitnage on the right and the old red bricked Methodist Chapel on the left). Please note we only have small cottage style 'Brambles' and 'Whitnage Cottage' signs.
- The parking area is located to the rear of Whitnage Cottage (reached via the access lane to the left of the garage).
Route Two (Not Recommended)
Distance - 2 miles from the M5 at Junction 27 via Sampford Peverell (typically suggested by SAT NAV systems, but via a half mile section of very narrow lane with few passing places). If you have little or no experience of driving in rural locations, best to use the recommended route via Uplowman.
- Turn left at the mini roundabout located at the top of the slip road (signposted Sampford Peverell, Halberton, Parkway Station and Tiverton).
- Continue on for 1/2 a mile into the village of Sampford Peverell.
- Turn right into Whitnage Road (first turning on the right, immediately after entering the 30mph zone).
- Continue on for 1/2 a mile (past Fairfield on the left, over the narrow humped back canal bridge, past Richmond Close and Boobery also on the left, through the concrete tunnel under the A361 dual carriageway, past Kestrels on the right, past Hill Kiln Farm on the left, the unnamed barn conversion on the right and the 'no entry - private access' drive on the left).
- Turn left at the junction signposted Whitnage. Do not go straight on towards Westleigh.
- Continue on for 1/2 a mile to Whitnage (past Marigold Cottage, Chamberlains Farm and Tiggs Oak, all on the right).
- Turn left at the next junction and continue on for 200 yards (past Whitnage Chart, Shapcote, and Whitnage Farm, all on the left).
- Whitnage Cottage is the next property on the left. (if you see the red bricked Methodist chapel on the right or Little Whitnage and Locks Cottage on the left, you have gone too far). Please note we only have small cottage style 'Brambles' and 'Whitnage Cottage' signs.
- The parking area is located to the rear of Whitnage Cottage (reached via the access lane to the left of the garage).
